US Operators Continue Slide Toward Online Gambling
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS --
WMS Gaming, a US-based company that manufactures slot machines for land-based casinos, announced it is entering the online casino market. The UK market will be the first for the gaming company's new Internet gambling venture.
WMS plans to follow its launch into Internet gaming by moving into more European markets as the gaming laws change to allow competition. Among the regions being considered are France, Italy, and Spain.
“We are the leaders in casino innovation and we want to leverage that insight online," WMS executive director of online gaming Brian Morgan told EGRmagazine. "We will only trade in markets where egaming is expressly legal, but there is plenty on our radar and we will expand market by market.”
While European companies have been making moves to prepare for a potential opening of the US online casino market, some US companies are just as clearly looking to catch up on the experience factor before US laws loosen. Harrah's Entertainment has begun operating its own Internet gaming division, among others.
Just as WMS pledges to obey national regulations of online gambling on the global market, so does Harrah's insist its program is designed to operate in Europe. But, while Playtech partners with Scientific Games to give it a domestic US component to go with its veteran ability, US companies try to learn on the go, before the starting gun fires.
