Online Casino License Suspended by UK
LONDON, ENGLAND --
The UK Gambling Commission has suspended the online casino license held by GameAccount. GameAccount is an Internet operator of sites that mostly feature skill games, but some of their products fall under the purview of gambling regulators.
The commission cited sections 116 and 118 of the Gambling Act of 2005 in placing the online gaming license under temporary suspension while a review is conducted. Section 116 gives the commission the right to examine and review licensees to ensure compliance with regulations.
Section 118 allows the commission to suspend a license if it is found that the licensee had breached regulations required in the awarding of the license, or if the commission finds the licensee unsuitable to continue acting under the rules stipulated by the Gambling Act.
The issues regarding GameAccount were not released, but the company had received disciplinary action last month from the Advertising Standards Authority, which found a GameAccount ad deliberately misleading in implying greater rewards with less risk at its site than other online casinos.
The commission did not say how long such a review might take, nor whether it expects to repeal the GameAccount gambling license.
GameAccount officials had no comment until they are able to review the charges brought against them.
