Pacquiao Favored by Sports Betting Patrons Over Cotto
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA --
Manny Pacquiao wants to tighten his grip on the mythical title of world's best pound-for-pound boxer, and is willing to add pounds to prove his point. Sports betting numbers show that gambling players believe the jump up in class to welterweight to fight champion Miguel Cotto.
Pacquiao is listed at -280, meaning gambling individuals need to lay 280 to win 100. Cotto is +220 to achieve the upset.
Sports betting enthusiasts have followed Pacquiao's marvelous rise to six championships in six weight classes, with the welterweight crown sitting as the potential seventh. Pacquiao accepted the challenge to fight at 147 pounds, even though his first title was won at the distinctly lighter 112 pound flyweight class.
The fight will take place Saturday night at the MGM Grand Casino in Las Vegas, the site of two previous monumental wins by Pacquiao, against Oscar dela Hoya and Ricky Hatton.
Pacquiao is expected to be the faster boxer when the two enrter the ring, while many believe that the weight jumps will finally catch up to the Filpino against such a strong opponent as Cotto. Money is there for people willing to try gambling against a legend, but Pacquiao knows his opportunity to reach the highest echelon of boxing history lies before him.
