Future of Worldwide Online Gambling Looking Brighter

By Paul Black on January 31, 2009  Email it!    Print Version

Play Slots at Rushmore Casino! CALGARY -- The future of online gambling is looking brighter thanks to several indicators which suggest a turnaround for the industry.  As you know, since the passing of the UIGEA in 2006, the online casino industry has experienced turmoil as US regulations almost bankrupted the entire sector.  Casino after casino was forced to close down, and players ran to the hills fearing they would be the target of US Feds.

As we skate into 2009, the industry as a whole is surviving - with several indicators pointing towards a brighter future ahead.

It is well-known that President Obama and his administration are open to discussing the possibility of overturning the UIGEA, or better yet, passing new legislation that will 'trump' the current ban.

In addition, new software technologies are being creating to better protect underage kids from the dangers of online gambling.  Back in 2006, the Republicans in favor of the UIGEA, were quick to criticize the lack of identity management software available to screen players.  The new software ensures players "are-who- they-say-they-are" and underage players will be turned away from the online casino.

Another factor making online casinos more attractive is the new restrictions on land-based casinos, as well as the costs associated with 'traveling-to' and 'staying-at' the resorts.  Players are simply fed-up with the new anti-smoking regulations, low payout percentages on slot machines, and high travel costs associated with brick and mortar casinos.  New online casino games are fair, have superior graphics and sound capabilities, and allow the player to remain in the comfort of their own home.

In addition to the indicators mentioned above, online casinos are much better able to market their products and services to their players.  Once registered with an online casino, marketing managers can remain in constant contact with players via email, allowing a closer relationship with the players.  Brick and mortar players tend to play anonymously and the casinos can rarely send offers to bring them back consistently. In today's digital age, a customer's email address remains the 'holy-grail' for marketing specialists.

"Online casinos will continue to outpace all other forms of gambling over the next decade.  Despite a miserable past 2 years, the industry is still growing and indicators point towards a strong rebound in the next 12-18 months", says Lee Rockwell, Online Casino Sphere's Chief Editor and gaming historian.
