China Central Gov't Halts New Casino Plans
BEIJING, CHINA --
The self-proclaimed gambling capital of the world has decided to take a step backward today by announcing a 'freeze' on all new casino development within its borders. Macau, the world's newest casino resort mecca located on a tiny island in China, said it will postpone the creation of new casino licenses and stop allocating new land for the construction of additional casinos.
The tiny island and its government are trying to get things under control. The decision too withdraw any and all new casino development plans in the area was ultimately decided by bureaucrats in Beijing's central government.
"The growth in which are our economy and gaming sector have increased is astounding. Too much growth too fast is also not a good thing", said Joh Dong from his office in Macau.
"We would like to make sure we do things right. We are going to use patience and judgement in our planning of this coastal paradise", he added.
In past years, Macau has opened its doors to Las Vegas gambing giants including Wynn Resorts and the Las Vegas Sands which built the Venetian Macau, turning it into the world's largest casino ever. On its first weekend, over 300,000 people patroned the casino.
No word on if or when casino projects will resume.
