Canada Lotto649 Headed for Potential Jackpot Record
CALGARY --
Tonight's Lotto649 in Canada is expected to approach an all-time record in ticket sales, according to a press statement made earlier this week by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation.
The estimated jackpot is said to be nearing $50 million. As you know, the largest-ever lottery jackpot won in Canada was over $54 million back in 2005 in the Lotto649 game.
"We expect our retailers to deal with larger-than-expected crowds as players swarm their convenience stores looking to sweep-up tickets in the final hours", says Michael Graydon, President and CEO of British Columbia Lottery Corporation.
"Aside from the current record jackpot, Wednesdays are the busiest sales day of the week." Just over 24% of all 6/49 sales go through on a Wednesday.
The Canadian government is urging players to bet responsibly and do not wager more than one can afford to lose.
Lotto 6/49 is the nationwide lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays after 9PM (EST). Players can purchase tickets at any lottery retailer or at BCLC's PlayNow.com web site.
UPDATE:Two Canadians won Lotto 649 last night and will spit the estimated $45 million jackpot, the 2nd largest in Lotto 6/49 history.
