Brett Favre Decision Huge for Online Casino NFL Future Odds
MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA --
The normal hemming and hawing over whether future Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre will play this year is exacerbated by oddsmakers looking to place an accurate line on NFL futures at online casinos. The National Football League is the biggest event in sports betting this side of the World Cup, and sports books are anxious to get a proper handle on the upcoming season.
For years, Favre has played a maybe-maybe-not game with NFL general managers and the media, leaving teams anticipating his retirement only to find the QB ready to put on pads when fall comes. Favre's indecisiveness led to his implausible exile from Green Bay, where his play for the Packers had made him a hero.
After a disappointing year playing for the New York Jets, the only thing that seemed more certain than an actual retirement was irrelevance of the decision to Super Bowl future odds.
But Favre's heavy flirtations with the Minnesota Vikings has changed that, making the aging warrior as possibly the greatest influence on the gambling odds other than Tom Brady's health.
Brady's New England Patriots are listed as favorites to win the title, returning $320 on a $100 bet. But the Vikings, even with an unsettled and unproven quarterback rotation, are not too far off the pace, earning only $1000 on the same $100 play.
Linesmakers say a commitment by by Favre would probably leapfrog the Vikings over other contenders, such as the New York Giants and the Pittsburgh Steelers, to the second choice, narrowly falling behind the Patriots. But Viking officials say a team deadline to sign Favre has been set for July 31st, allowing only two more weeks to resolve the question of will he or won't he.
