Bodog Owners Recover Online Casino Domains
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA --
Two years ago, First Technology LLC won a judgment against Bodog online casino brands for patent infringement, which resulted in the Internet gaming operator losing its domain names to the Internet licensing company. This past week, the current owners of Bodog reached a settlement with First Technology, allowing the online gambling company to recover its domains.
The Morris Mohawk Gaming Group was not the owner of Bodog when the lawsuit was heard, but has since taken over after founder Calvin Ayre left the company. The group, led by CEO Alwyn Morris, reached a confidential resolution to the dispute, which had led to a judgment against Bodog not only for domains, but also $48 million.
The lawsuit had become a point of public contention between Ayre and Morris, but Ayre announced from his unknown retirement/ hiding place that he credits Morris with arranging the settlement.
Dr. Scott Lewis, founder and CEO of First Technology, has patents in his company's name for assorted multimedia formats and platforms for Internet use, including online gaming.
Mohawk Gaming released a statement saying,"This settlement ends the series of 1st Technology's lawsuits addressing the alleged use of patents in the 1st Technology portfolio. The settlement also resolves 1st Technology's judgment collection efforts."
Alwyn Morris added, " We are pleased to have worked constructively with 1st Technology and its principals to bring an end to this protracted dispute. This resolution will provide certainty and will also allow us to continue to enhance our technology base for online gaming in order to provide our users with unfettered access to the best technology."
