US National Monument to Install Casino Gambling
KING OF PRUSSIA, PENNSYLVANIA --
Slots and casino gaming have done so well for the state of Pennsylvania, regulators are now giving permission to place the gambling machines at one of the most historic sites in the US. The Valley Forge Convention Center will receive a state license to host slot machines, it was announced Wednesday.
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board released a statement saying the center would be allowed to place as many as 500 slots on its premises. Regulators say the machines should build enough business to gross $74 million annually within five years.
The convention center is built on a hill looking down upon the famed valley in which General George Washington bivouacked the Continental Army during the toughest times of the Revolutionary War. The surrounding area has been made into Valley Forge National Historical Park, featuring a hotel, golf courses, and retail space.
The license is the twelfth given by the state regulators, out of a maximum of fourteen under state law. Seven slot casinos are already operating in Pennsylvania, with the others in stages of development.
State officials say slots gambling has brought $2.3 billion in tax revenue to the state since the first slot parlor opened at the end of 2006. Over 23,000 jobs have been created by casino operations in Pennsylvania.
