Pennsylvania Continues Casino Underage Gambling Crackdown
GRANTVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA --
Pennsylvania regulators continued to emphasize the need to protect youth from gambling exposure, fining a casino $24,000. The latest action followed hefty fines given to other Penn gaming venues that had been found negligent in guarding against underage participation.
This time, Hollywood Casino is the operation caught not being diligent in warding against gambling by minors. State regulators say three different times, gambling by players not of age slipped by Hollywood security measures.
In July, it was found a 20-year-old man played at a slot machine for well over an hour before being discovered. A 19-year-old took his chances on a slot for about 20 minutes before being stopped in August, and, just a few days later, an 18-year-old woman was able to gamble for over two hours.
Mountainview Thoroughbred Racing Association, the operator of Hollywood Casino, agreed to pay the fines without appeal, and officials promised to tighten security and increase age-awareness training.
By law, Pennsylvania gaming floors are barred to those under 18, while it is required to be 21 in order to participate in gambling activities.
