Donald Trump Sees Atlantic City Casino Scene as "Disaster"

By Brian Chan on February 16, 2009  Email it!    Print Version

Play Slots at Rushmore Casino! ATLANTIC CITY, NEW JERSEY -- In the midst of removing himself from any connection to the New Jersey casino industry, Donald Trump declared the situation in Atlantic City to be an ongoing disaster. Trump Entertainment, the gaming operator of the Trump Marina Casino, the Trump Taj Mahal, and The Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino, is preparing itself for bankruptcy, possibly as soon as Tuesday.

But Trump was speaking beyond his eponymous company to the problems infesting Atlantic City gambling venues at large. Over the past year, the Tropicana saw its owners stripped of their gaming license and the casino run by a state trustee while attempts to sell the business stumbled along.

Other projects, such as Revel Entertainment's colossal casino construction, have been suspended, leaving exposed girders to rust while the casinos operating see business slipping away like water down the drain.

Pinnacle Entertainment and Penn National Gaming have both cancelled plans for major Atlantic City casinos. After announcing his resignation from the Trump Entertainment board, Donald Trump said of the trend, "It’s a disaster and I see what’s happened with so many others, and I don’t want to be a part of it."

A perfect storm of horrible business conditions has engulfed Atlantic City, including the world recession, the opening of neighboring states' slot parlors, the on-again off-again smoking ban, and the lack of an identity for the area.

These arrogant overachievers in the gaming control board had it coming...they deserve to take the credit for their ignorance and aloofness.

Donald Trump can't blame this "disaster" on a smoking ban. That's where he was trying to place the blame in the past. Smoking ban was lifted in AC. What happened Trump?

TIME AND TIME AGAIN I HAVE SAID THE CASINOS HAVE THEMSELVES TO BLAME. THEY BECAME TOO GREEDY,AND TIGHTEN UP THE SLOTS OVER THE YEARS THAT PLAYERS HAVE JUST GIVEN UP.MANY OF THEIR MOVES WERE COST EFFECTIVE TO THEM BUT NO THOUGHT TO THE PEOPLE. THEY TOOK ALL THE FUN OUT OF PLAYING AND FINE TUNED THE SLOTS AS WELL AS JUICING THEM,SO PEOPLE COULD NOT POSSIBLY WIN ANYMORE. I WROTE A LETTER TO MR TRUMP FIVE YEARS AGO THAT I THOUGHT THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. MY LETTER WAS IGNORED AS I NEVER GOT A REPLY.IN THE PAST PEOPLE WOULD FLOCK TO A CASINO IN HOPES OF WINNING A JACKPOT. THE JACKPOTS ARE VERY FEW NOT LIKE IT WAS BACK IN 1978 TO THE 1980'S.
THE CURRENT SITUATION IS EFFECTING THE CASINOS,BUT IT IS NOT THE CAUSE. THEY BECAME TOO GREEDY AND AGGROGANT WITH THEIR OPERATION.

Yes. The casinos got too greedy, especially the slots. Machines very seldom hit for anyone now. The early to mid 90's were so much easier.
