South Florida Blackjack Games Begin Sunday
HOLLYWOOD, FL --
For the first time in state history, blackjack tables will open in a South Florida casino. Which casino you ask? Of course, the infamous Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino located in Hollywood, FL owned and operated by the Seminole Indian Tribe of Florida.
The casino already has Las Vegas style slot machines and plenty of high-stakes poker action. The addition of the blackjack tables will begin on Sunday evening.
Republican Governor Charlie Christ, agreed to allow the class II games in a compact that was signed with the Seminole Indians back in December of 2007.
With the opening of the new games, the casino has been actively hiring and training hundreds of new card dealers. The casino has 71 blackjack tables ready to go, as the first hand will be dealt at dinnertime on Sunday evening.
"Blackjack is one of those games you can play all night, without losing your shirt", said Ray Nickels, a local slots player who is excited about the chance to play black jack for the first time legally.
"I expect the new games will help balance the flow a little, the poker tables are always so crowded", he added.
A group opposing the new games has filed a lawsuit against Charlie Christ stating it's against Florida law for the Governor to make such unilateral accords without a vote.
