Las Vegas Sands CEO Receives Patriot Award
WASHINGTON, D.C. --
Las Vegas Sands (NYSE: LVS) chairman and CEO, Sheldon Adelson, was given the distinguished Patriot Award at the fourth Annual Armed Forces Foundation Congressional Gala in Washington, DC. The award is given to people whose generous contributions to the military and their families go above and beyond the call of duty.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Adelson said, "It is crucial we support our troops and their families. They are acting courageous and we need to show how much we appreciate their efforts, especially in a time of war."
Mr. Adelson is known among North American elites as a billionaire businessman and casino owner. He has an estimated worth of over $25 billion dollars, making him the 3rd richest man in the United States of America.
In 1988, Adelson and his team purchased the Las Vegas Sands Hotel and Casino, a former hangout of celebrity superstar Frank Sinatra. His continued efforts over the past 20 years have made Las Vegas Sands one of the largest casino and gaming companies in the world.
Most recently, Adelson and Las Vegas Sands opened the Venetian in Macau, China. It is said to to be the largest casino in the world serving over 300,000 customers in its first weekend back in October.
Adelson began studying at New York City College, but ended up dropping out. He continues to work for Las Vegas Sands as Chief Executive Officer and spends alot of his free-time working with charities and other non-profit organizations.
