Seminole Casino Expansion Brings New Jobs to Florida

By Angela Bedford on March 12, 2008  Email it!    Print Version

Play Slots at Rushmore Casino! COCONUT CREEK, FL -- Amy Driscoll of the Miami Herald is reporting the Seminole Tribe of Florida is preparing to hire 3,650 new card dealers for blackjack, baccarat, and pai-gow in South Florida.  The news comes as the tribe rolls out even more Las Vegas style slot machines in its area casinos.  The new slots are a big change compared to the original 'bingo' style slots, where players competed against each other, instead of the house.

The Seminoles began serving up casino gambling back in 2002, but the action was very limited. Visitors could only play bingo-style slots and limited poker.  If you're unfamiliar with bingo-style slots, the states classify them as Class II machines. They are slower, draw their reels based on bingo cards, and match players against each other.  The Vegas-style slots are considered Class III machines and require an additional license from the state.

The Seminoles signed an agreement in November with Gov. Charlie Crist that allows them to offer the new slots and special card games at their 7 Florida casinos, a move that is being heavily challenged in the Florida Supreme Court.  Despite the efforts of those wanting to limit casino expansion in Florida, the tribe moves forward.

The tribe is expecting to add baccarat, blackjack, and pai-gow to its casinos by June.  With the expansion, the tribe is planning to hire 3,650 dealers to handle the demand.  At the casino in Hollywood, the facility contains more than 100,000 sq. feet of gaming area alone.

Tribe leaders on Wednesday showed-off the new slot machines alongside beautiful girls dressed in sexy costumes, as confetti rained down on them.

The Seminole Tribe carries great prestige in the State of Florida. There history can be traced back over 12,000 years, according to some researchers. For more info, please visit the tribes website:
