South Florida SeaEscape Casino Purchased by Investor
PALM BEACH, FL --
South Florida millionaire Glenn Straub purchased the SeaEscape casino today for a cool $3.6 million dollars. Mr. Straub, a Palm Beach County investor took ownership of the sinking gambling barge during an auction at the Broward County Courthouse in Ft. Lauderdale.
The deal is still waiting approval from the courts, but it is likely Mr. Straub will have the papers signed shortly.
As we reported many months ago, the SeaEscape gambling ship in South Florida has struggled mightily since the opening of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, FL. The Seminoles offer Class III gaming opportunities, something SeaEscape considered its core competency for many years.
SeaEscape is a day-cruise casino gambling ship operating out of Port Everglades. The company offers inexpensive day-cruises out to the 3-mile line of the Atlantic Ocean where customers can gamble, drink, and enjoy entertainment on the ship.
According to local media, Straub is most likely going to rename the ship and eliminate the gambling theme.
"The SeaEscape casino cannot compete with the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, they must change their strategy to other entertainment venues such as weddings, bar mitzvahs, and private parties", says Jen Cintron, a local journalist covering South Florida entertainment news.
