Pennsylvania Punishes Casino for Lax Age Verification
HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA --
The state of Pennsylvania took punitive action against Philadelphia Park Casino and Racetrack for permitting underage gambling. The state Gaming Control Board fined the casino $24,000 for two documented instances of juveniles gambling at slots without security challenge.
The first incident occurred last July, when a twenty-year-old man passed security personnel and then proceeded to play slots for over an hour before having identification requested.
The second violation took place in November when an eighteen-year-old entered and passed security without being asked for proof of age. He played at slots and cashed winning ticket vouchers, and was not uncovered until leaving and trying to re-enter.
The two slot players received trespassing tickets from state police.
The casino assured the Board it had taken steps to address the slack security situation. Racetrack officials accepted blame and said a new Director of Security had been hired. More security officials are to be working at busy times, and employees involved in the incidents had been disciplined or fired.
