Betting on NBA Finals Limited in Las Vegas

By Lee Rockwell on June 6, 2008  Email it!    Print Version

Play Slots at Rushmore Casino! LAS VEGAS -- If you are visting Las Vegas this weekend, beware that Harrah's will not accept bets taken on the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers series, due to a new rule in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

This restriction will affect approximately 1/3 of the sportsbooks in Las Vegas as they are barrred from accepting action on the games.  No, this is not a government response to the Donaghy referee scandal, rather, a technicality in the rule books.

Harrah's Entertainment, a major casino and sportsbook operater in Sin City, also owns a 2.5% stake in the Boston Celtics franchise.  With 13 casinos on the strip, Harrah's patrons will have to look elsewhere if they would like to gamble on Game 2, Sunday night.

The restriction means bets won't be accepted at about a third of all sports books on the Las Vegas Strip, including Caesars Palace, Paris Las Vegas, Bally's, Imperial Palace, Flamingo, Bill's, Harrah's and the Rio.

In a hard fought game last night, the Boston Celtics outlasted the Los Angeles Lakers.  The series is drawing worldwide attention due to the historic past rivalries between the teams.

Other casinos, such as MGM Grande sportsbook, are taking bets as usual.
