Growth of NASCAR Gambling May Be Sports Betting Future
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA --
While many Las Vegas sportsbooks report inconsistent action on NASCAR racing, officials at the Las Vegas Hilton Casino say that devoting an effort to the auto racing circuit builds a gambling clientele. The Hilton, unlike most Nevada casinos, offers gambling odds every week not only on NASCAR's Sprint Cup, but the Nationwide Series, Indy Car and Formula One racing.
The result is that the Hilton has nourished and grown a steady crowd of gambling enthusiasts into car racing. Where other books only feature the biggest races on race day, the Hilton posts odds and matchups all week, and devotes itself to accommodating racing fans with the same quality that established the Hilton's reputation as the best sports book in the US.
"We have grown every year in NASCAR wagering," Hilton manager Ed Salmon told ESPN. "Our odds to win handle has increased an amazing amount from when we started in June of 2004."
The Hilton adjusts its odds frequently during the week, putting in the effort that more lackadaisical sportsbooks extend only for football and March Madness. The end result creates an accurate measure of each race, information gambling patrons can use to spot errors in oddsmaking by less diligent books.
Other casinos might consider the Hilton's operations as far-sighted and copy its devotion to NASCAR. After all, when the NFL joined the other major sports associations in suing to block Delaware's sports gambling plan, NASCAR was the only organization to denounce the uproar and say that gambling in no way leads to corruption and tainted results.
