Mississippi Casino Spans River With Donated Bras
VICKSBURG, MISSISSIPPI --
To commemorate the close of the "Bras For Breast Cancer" fundraiser, the Riverwalk Casino in Mississippi is tying a line of donated bras across the Mississippi River. Crossing the Big Muddy at a point over a mile and a half wide, the line will be composed of over 2800 bras.
Riverwalk Casino has pledged a dollar for every bra donated, to be given to the American Cancer Society. An anonymous donor has promised to meet the casino's contribution dollar for dollar.
The event will take place Thursday morning in Vicksburg. Leftover bras will be given to homeless women's shelters.
Patrons of all casinos can show their support for breast cancer awareness by going without bras. In fact, going topless may bring even more awareness to breasts and the need to preserve them.
Mississippi River authorities were unavailable for comment on the possible distractions to barge pilots operating the river. Some observers felt that the impetus of the casino ceremony may be to cause minds to wander from duties, as eyes search for the 2800 or more braless women of Vicksburg.
A casino representative said, “One of our primary goals is to support the community and be involved with fundraising activities. We get a million requests, but this one was not only for a good cause, but it was also such a fun idea that we wanted to be involved."
The number of bras, which was figured by a civil engineer hired by the gambling venue, will not approach the Guinness World Record of over 114,000, set in Cyprus. The publication of this news is expected to increase the tourism in Cyprus by many times.
