Permanent Casino Set to Open in Pennsylvania
PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA --
The Meadows Racetrack and Casino is prepared to open its permanent casino next month. On April 15th, the horse track will move its machines from the temporary slot facility it has been using into the newly constructed casino.
A soft opening to test procedures and systems will take place April 13th. Revenue taken in during the testing will be donated to volunteer fire departments in the county.
The temporary casino housed 1825 slots and has been operating for almost two years. The new location will contain 3700 slot machines. It will also house restaurants and an area to view the races.
The Meadows is owned by Cannery Casino Resorts. Cannery just saw Australian gambling magnate James Packer, of Crown Casinos, pull out of a purchase of Cannery's casinos at the last minute.
But Pennsylvania is one of the areas enjoying increased gaming revenue. While many casinos around the country are suffering declining business, Pennsylvania has seen a steady rise in gambling clientele.
