Maine Casino Project Ready for Voter Approval
PORTLAND, MAINE --
A new casino project proposed for Maine apparently will not be slowed, as the company behind the operation assured Maine residents it was well funded. Architects designing the Oxford Highlands Resort, Spa, and Casino unveiled plans for the new $150 million concept.
Voters in Maine will decide a ballot issue as to whether to permit the casino to go forward during the Novermber 4th election.
Peter Wilday, the chief architect for the casino, emphasized that the plan is to resemble historic New England styles, with brick buildings varying in size and shape set amidst a wooded area.
The casino would have 100,000 square feet of gaming space, accompanied by a 300-room hotel, a spa, golf course, and indoor and outdoor swimming facilities. The project is viewed as a year-round resort, staying open through Maine's fierce winter months.
The casino would host 1500 slot machines and an assortment of table games.
Olympia Group, the controlling company, said the international credit crunch would not affect the plan, as the company is well capitalized.
