April a Cruel Month for Las Vegas Gambling Revenue
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA --
Gaming revenue for Las Vegas casinos continued its long downward slide as April saw a drop from last year's figures. The Nevada Gaming Commission said that Clark County casinos generated almost sixteen percent less income in 2009 than in April of last year.
A surprising statistic revealed was that, while play at table games was virtually even with last year, even showing a minuscule increase, revenue from table games dropped over twenty percent.
While this seems to indicate patrons are more frequently winning at table games, one gambling analyst thinks differently. Robert LaFleur of Susquehanna says gamblers might be playing differently because of the economy.
"There has been a recent trend where players that are up have been more likely to walk away from the tables and cash out as opposed to playing longer, which can depress hold percentages," LaFleur said.
In other words, players are no longer beating themselves up for not leaving ahead, because they are leaving. Renewed appreciation for the value of money has players less likely to press their luck.
