Gulf-Coast Gambling Barge Hires New Head Honcho
GULF COAST --
According to a company press release this afternoon, Nevada Gold and Casinos, Inc. says Gary L. Johnson has been named new President and GM of the Horizon Casino Hotel in Vicksburg, Mississippi down on the Gulf Coast.
The appointment of Mr. Johnson will become effective once Nevada Gold completes the acquisition of the casino. Also, Mississippi gaming regulators must approve the hiring.
You may be aware, Mr. Johnson most recently worked as the Vice President and GM of Argosy Casino in Kansas City for approximately 4 years. During his time as General Manager, he managed operations and the complete overhaul of the property with the construction of a new 70,000-sq. foot, highly themed casino; a 4 story 1,200-stall parking facility, and a 258-room, state-of-the-art hotel and spa complex.
The Horizon Casino, where Mr. Johnson will soon begin working, is a traditional-style gambling barge designed in the spirit of those historically found on the Mississippi River, and is permanently docked in downtown Vicksburg. The riverboat does not have engines and has never been navigated with passengers aboard.
The boat has over 600 slot and video poker machines, a variety of the most popular table games, the only live poker room in the market and a venue for live entertainment. The property also offers a 117-room hotel and three restaurants including fine dining, a buffet and a sports bar.
Paraphrasing Mr. Johnson in the press release, "I am so excited about the opportunity, its going to be a wonderful time in our careers".
