Virtual Gambling Comes to Detroit Casinos
DETROIT, MICHIGAN --
Despite poor results when tested elsewhere, electronic gaming tables are being installed in Detroit area casinos. MotorCity Casino is adding to its virtual roulette gaming by adding electronic blackjack tables.
The tables perform sans dealers, saving casinos wages and allowing for faster play. MotorCity's blackjack will feature $5 minimums for six-deck play, displayed on a high-definition screen.
The casino plans on doubling its electronic roulette, and adding baccarat and horse racing to its virtual gaming. Casino executives say the games help bridge the gap between slot players and table game patrons.
"You'd be surprised how many people who would've never played a table game who will play this," said Phil Trofibio, vice-president of slot operations for MotorCity.
"It's the lowest you'll pay for a hand of blackjack in the city," added Trofibio, saying the lower cost for the house allowed for a lower minimum per hand bet.
Still results of a similar experiment at Trump casinos in Atlantic City were mixed, at best. Once the innovation was no longer fresh, electronic gaming areas became deserted, as players sought dealer interaction and trusted live games more.
