Casino Revenue Slide Continues Nationwide
NEW YORK, NEW YORK --
June gaming reports continued the pattern of falling revenues across the United States. Although year-to-date figures had shown that national win was up 1.57%, the positive figure was largely due to new openings.
Once new casinos are taken out of the equation, revenues have dropped by over 5% nationwide. New locations were responsible for positive growth reported by Isles of Capri, Pinnacle, and Ameristar.
Perhaps the one true bright spot was the growth in the racino industry, particularly in the new York and Pennsylvania areas. Pennsylvania track casinos were up an astounding 48.9%, as slots took off in the Keystone state.
New York also showed impressive figures, as their slots racinos climbed 15.5%.
Meanwhile, established venues were left to use a litany of excuses for poor performance. The economy, Mississippi River floodwaters, smoking bans, and expanding competition were all cited.
The truth of the matter is that casinos have proliferated to the point that the public now has many options on how to spend its gambling dollars. Casinos will have to find fresh and clever means to attract consumers, no longer able to rely on just being the only gambling purveyor in reach.
