Casino Gambling Cruises Harm Ecosystem and Environment
KEY WEST, FL --
Environmental groups in Florida are upset over the apparent damage caused by casino gambling boats operating in fragile coastal waters of Southeast Florida. The environment-friendly activists claim gambling cruises are tearing up the marine ecosystem causing harm to coral reefs and coastal grasslands. The group also claims these casino barges are dumping sewage waste from the ship's passengers not far from the pristine beaches of Miami and Ft. Lauderdale.
"We are not anti-gambling, we are not anti-casino, we are not anti-development. Our mission is to help protect the environment and coastal marine sanctuaries from radical profiteers who lack regard for our beautiful planet", said retired Navy Captain and concerned citizen Jeffrey H. Huber of Hollywood, Florida.
The gambling boats operate out of Port Everglades in the Ft. Lauderdale area and offer guests a daytime or evening trip out to the 3-mile international line. Once out passed the 3-mile line, visitors aboard the ship are given buffet-style, all-u-can-eat meals, endless alcoholic beverages, along with the ability to gamble at-will. The ship anchors offshore causing damage to the Ft. Lauderale coral reefs.
In a day and age where most casino gambling debate centers around moral and economic issues, the discussion concerning the environment is quite astounding. Are casinos bad for the planet? Are they doing harm to the environment? These are legitimate questions that should be posed in any land-based casino expansion debate giving more reasons to open-up the internet to gambling.
