Alabama Gambling Ruckus a Confederacy of Dunces

Play Slots at Rushmore Casino! MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA -- Alabama Governor Bob Riley's second hand-picked man to lead a special task force raiding illegal gambling establishments throughout the state has received substantial campaign contributions from gaming interests in the past, according to reports by the Mobile Press-Register. John Tyson received almost 10 percent of his funding in his race for state attorney general from political action committees funded by other PACs channeling donations from tribal casinos and other gambling concerns.

Riley's first hand-picked leader of the task force was David Barber, who resigned the post after it was revealed he had won $2300 while gambling at a Choctaw casino in Mississippi. Riley himself has been rumored to have received contributions from the Choctaw Nation.

Disgraced and imprisoned lobbyist Jack Abramoff was recorded back before Riley's first term as saying Riley would guarantee Mississippi tribal casinos would never face competition in Alabama.

Tyson denied receiving any donations from any gaming interests, even though PAC-to-PAC records show Watch PAC contributed $10,000. Watch is totally supported by gambling money, from both tribal casinos and race tracks. Tyson received $100,000 of $1.1 million he raised for the AG race from such groups.

"But to that, I would add, 'So what?' " said Tyson to the Dothan Eagle, refusing to see a conflict in taking money from competitors of the businesses he now shuts down.

Riley's gambling prohibitionists seem determined to earn the ironic nickname "The Touchables."
