Venetian Casino to Host Poker Game Show
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA --
The Venetian Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas has devised a method to give casual poker players a chance to match up with big-name pros and high-stakes regulars.
A live audience will watch the casino's new show, "The Real Deal', which combines the format of a game show with Texas Hold'em. A ninety-minute tournament will be played, with the audience allowed to play and win via touchscreens.
Nine players will participate each night. Two pros will play, along with six randomly selected audience members. The remaining audience will play as the ninth player.
While players at the table use chips and can raise, the audience members accumulate points, and can only call or fold. Audience participants compete amongst each other to see who can rack up the most points.
Additionally, prizes are offered with the chance to draw certain hands at the show's end. A royal flush in this phase would earn the player $1 million.
Comedian Paul Rodriguez will host the show, with poker pro Lacy Jones as his assistant.
Some of poker's biggest names will take their turns as the two competing pros, including Doyle Brunson, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Helmuth, Scotty Nguyen, and Phil Laak.
