American Poker Star Wins Canadian Open
CALGARY --
Former WSOP Champion Huck Seed added another notch to his belt on Sunday night as he wrapped up the Main Event at the 2008 Canadian Open Poker Championships held in Calgary. The tournament was hosted by the Deerfoot Inn and Casino and featured over $290,000 dollars in total prizes.
Mr. Seed defeated Canadian poker star Brad Booth after a tough best of 3 match that lasted over 5 hours and ended early Monday morning. Graeme Putt came in third, Gavin Smith in fourth, and rounding out the top 5 was Nghi Van Tran.
"This was an excellent tournament with respect to quality of players and how it was operated", said Mr. Seed.
The event took place March 6th-9th and included a $5,000 buy-in.
Seed was in top form as he outlasted his competition in the Main Event. For his efforts in 2008, Mr. Seed takes home $100,000 in prize money. Two years ago, Seed came in 3rd place at this event.
Huck Seed is a popular American poker star. His total career prize money exceeds $3.6 million dollars. Most of his success has come during the World Series of Poker. He has had limited fortunes playing on the WPT Tour.
Huck Seed was an electical engineering student at Caltech, before taking a leave of absense and never returning. He entered the world of prime-time professional poker shortly thereafter.
