Republican Gamblers Address Party Platform

By Brian Chan on August 22, 2008  Email it!    Print Version

Play Slots at Rushmore Casino! WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Many online gambling aficionados have grown frustrated with the current political situation. Even though polls have shown high public interest in the regulation and taxation of the online casino industry, the UIGEA still attempts to ban Internet gambling.

Part of the solution to the problem is to become the squeaky wheel. If enough gamblers let the people who represent them in government know this is a major issue, votes to change the existing environment will soon accumulate.

The Poker Players Alliance is encouraging members to write posts on the site of the Republican Party platform, letting the party officials know that many long-time Republicans are upset with the part's stance against online wagering.

Fans of online gambling in every form should follow this example. The 2004 platform contained unfounded statements regarding the number of problem gamblers in the country, and asserted the party's rejection of online casinos. By writing the website and informing the platform framers of the beliefs of many Republicans, this aggressive language may be stricken in 2008.

Republicans traditionally believe in the rights of the individual, and the limiting of government power. By letting their voices be heard, Republican patrons of Internet casinos can help their party reclaim its roots while pushing for their hobby to become safer and more readily available.
