Online Gambling Study Proves Casino Expert's Theories Correct
ONTARIO, CANADA --
Gordon Price of CasinoGamblingWeb fame has been advocating for years regulation of Internet casinos as the best plan to combat the problems cited by anti-gambling factions as reasons to ban the online wagering system. Now, yet another scientific study has confirmed Price's beliefs.
A joint project between the University of Western Ontario and the University of Nevada Las Vegas has proven that bans and attempts to outlaw online gambling are fruitless and ineffective, as the online proliferation continues unabated.
The researchers also found online gambling to be potentially a greater risk for problem gambling than land-based casinos, due to ease of access and potential to "become... an integrated part of a consumer's life."
The solution, as Price has told the world for years, is to regulate the industry. The joint study suggested encouraging the entry into the field of established and licensed operators of land casino giants, such as Harrah's and MGM Mirage.
Obviously, even the detractors of the casino industry must admit that, if access cannot be blocked, the next best step is to promote legitimate operators, who run under regulation and taxation, are licensed, and follow strict guidelines regarding problem gambling, minors, and transparent operations.
A Harrah's spokesman said the company had already examined the possibility of entering a legal and regulated industry, and under the right guidelines, would be most interested in the opportunity.
No doubt that Wynn, Las Vegas Sands, MGM Mirage, and others would be quick to follow, bringing a brand recognition that could wipe the market clean of the shady, fly-by-night operations opponents so fear. If only everyone had listened to Price, the industry and the country might be years ahead of the game.
