Petition Against Kentucky Online Gambling Order Circulates
LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY --
A petition is posted on the Internet asking for signatures to protest the Kentucky online casino domain name court case. BoycottKentucky.com wants people to add their names to a list of parties requesting Governor Beshear halt his action against Internet gambling sites.
Beshear has obtained a court order demanding 141 online casinos show proof they are not accessible in Kentucky, or else forfeit their domain names to the state. This would effectively shut down thses legitimate businesses around the world.
The precedent set by allowing a government to seize domain names of companies neither based in nor having a physical presence in the jurisdiction in question would be horrific. Any government that found its own peculiar laws broken may force a foreign site to obey or lose its domain name.
BoycottKentucky has also suggested shunning Churchill Downs, TwinSpires.com, Yum brand restaurants including Taco Bell and Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Lexmark ink and printers.
The site also gives Beshear's office number, and asks that all individuals call on Friday, October 31st, and tell the governor how upset he's made them.
The petition will be sent by BoycottKentucky.com to both the governor and the judge hearing the case before the next court date.
