Columnist Slams NFL Policy on Sports Gambling
DOVER, DELAWARE --
The sports league lawsuit against Delaware's operation of sports gambling as part of its lottery is drawing scorn across the US. Among the most vociferous in decrying the attempt by the NFL and other sports groups to block Delaware's revenue capture through sports betting is Tim Dahlberg of the Associated Press.
The NFL is trying to convince US residents that it cares about the integrity of its football game results, and that spreading sports betting will lead to increasing temptation for players and officials. But Dahlberg is one of many who call out the NFL for caring more about perception than reality.
The columnist says Roger Goodell states in the brief that "betting could make every dropped pass or turnover "fuel speculation, distrust and accusations of point-shaving and game-fixing."
Statements like this have made sports observers wonder where Goodell watches games, because it seems he's never been in a sports bar for a closely contested (against the line) NFL game. Dahlberg says Goodell needs to watch a game in a Las Vegas sportsbook, packed with gamblers who "are invariably the first ones who pipe up on the rare occasion when it looks like something could be amiss."
Dahlberg even notes that the sports leagues, in uniting their power, might have found a better cause to serve than denying Delaware revenue. "Who knows, with all that brain power working together they might even come up with a way to pay for their own stadiums and arenas instead of soaking taxpayers every time they need a new one."

I read your previous article on Delaware sportsbetting being denied.
I have a great idea for a follow up article about how technology can help the sports gaming industry. We have developed an iPhone and Blackberry application that allows customers to track their bets real time, with a proprietary algorithm that shows a win/loss %, statistics, lines, wager amounts etc.
(If you have an iPhone download it for free, or I can walk you through it, blackberry is available next week). I can also email you the press release.
There is actually a nice story as to how the app was developed (father and son in Vegas trying to figure out how to keep track of all the parlays and bets they have made, pulling tickets out of their wallet, front pocket, shirt pocket....etc....there has to be a better way :) )
