D-Day for Frank Internet Casino Bill is Wednesday
WASHINGTON, D.C. --
After much speculation, the date of the release of Barney Frank's bill to repeal the UIGEA and regulate online gambling is now known. Frank's office released a statement from the US Representative from Massachusetts saying the Internet casino measure would be submitted to Congress tomorrow.
Frank stated that the bill will give exemption from the UIGEA to all gaming operators that are licensed and regulated. Frank said passage of the bill "will enable Americans to bet online and put an end to an inappropriate interference with their personal freedom."
Support for the bill has grown in many ways since Frank tried a similar measure last year, only to have it stalled in committee by a single vote.
Foreign trade observers are critical of the damage the UIGEA ban has done to European alliances, hurt by US protectionism. Financial leaders are upset with the onerous task the UIGEA places on them, interpreting legality of Internet gambling sites.
Online gaming faced tough, entrenched foes when Bush was President, but a Democratic Congress and Presidency promise for smoother sailing for the gambling package.
