Gambling Expansion in Kansas Appears Imminent
KANSAS CITY, KS --
Gambling expansion is the topic of conversation tonight in Kansas as Commissioners for the Unified Government of Wyandotte County will discuss whethor or not to allow a 3-quarter billion dollar mega-casino project by Las Vegas Sands.
LVS announced a plan to build a 300-room hotel with casino, spa, convention facilities, and restaurants for sites in Edwardsville and Kansas City. The proposal includes over 5,000 slot machines, 200 table games, a poker room, 275,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, a 4,000-seat indoor entertainment venue and an outdoor amphitheater.
Yesterday, Las Vegas Sands handed-over a list of nearly 5,000 signatures of Kansas City residents in favor of the proposed casino gambling complex. If they decide to go ahead with the LVS proposal, the next step is to pass the proposal on to the planning and zoning review process.
The inevitable expansion of gambling is a hot topic all over the country. Recently, Massachusetts shot-down a proposal by Governor Deval Patrick to add 3 major in-state casinos. Land-based casino lobbyists have been all over the country in the past few years trying to increase the number of legalized casinos in metropolitan areas.
