Thank you for visiting our free blackjack page today. We all know that blackjack is one of the most popular table games in any casino on the planet, whether its Las Vegas, your local neighborhood casino, online casinos, or on a gambling cruise just passed the 3-mile international-water demarcation line. The reason blackjack is so well-liked around the world is because it gives players the best odds of winning over an extended period of time of any casino game. Can you believe the house advantage in blackjack is approximately 1/2 of a percentage point? What does that mean in laymen terms? Well, if you play blackjack for 6 hours straight, the dealer will only win .5% of your money on average. Since its only an average, sometimes you could win alot more, and sometimes you could lose alot more. The point you should take away from this is simple. Play smart and follow a proven strategy and its likely you will never lose that badly. Some people have even been known to make a few bucks. In the next section we discuss the basic rules of the game. If you already know how to play, feel free to skip the introduction and scroll to the free online blackjack game at the bottom of the page. The game listed below was designed by Aeroplayer and is a full-featured version of free blackjack. Practicing on a free game is an excellent primer for wagering real dollars later on.

How to Play Blackjack

Just like many other popular online casino games, blackjack is played with a standard 52-card deck. Most of the time casinos play with either 1, 2, 4, 6, or 8 decks at one time. As a player, the fewer the decks, the better your odds. Unfortunately, this aspect of the game is out of your control. The casino will decide how many decks to shuffle at their tables. Another aspect you must be aware of is the table minimum and maximum bets. The minimum indicates the lowest bet you can make, while the maximum bet dictates a cap.

Now, playing the game is actually very straightforward. Each card has a value expressed as a number. A three is equivalent to three, an eight is equal to eight, each face card is worth 10 (jack, queen, king), and an ace is worth either eleven or one (the player decides this). Before the cards are dealt, each player lays down his/her bet, typically $1, $5, or $10. Once everyone has placed their wager, the dealer will hand out 2 cards face-down to each player. Then, the dealer will give themselves 2 cards, 1 face-up and 1 face-down.

Each player should look at their 2 cards and determine the value of their hand by adding the 2 cards. For example, if you are dealt a 7 and a queen, your total is 17. The object of the game is to get closest to 21, without going over. You are only competing against the dealer, so don't worry about the other players who might be sitting next to you. Your job is to get as close to 21 as possible without going over. The dealer is trying to do the same thing with his/her cards.

Once you have your two cards in hand and you have calculated the total of the first two cards, you have 1 of 5 options. You could 'Stand', which means you are satisfied with your hand and you would like to see what the dealer has. The next option is to 'Hit', which means you would like to receive another card. The new card will be added to your previous total. The next option you have is to 'Double Down', which basically means to double your wager in return for 1 extra card to add to your sum. The fourth option a player could take is to 'Surrender'. This means that you are dropping out of this hand and you are willing to forfeit half of your bet. This is usually done if a player believes strongly they will lose to the dealer. And finally, you could 'Split'. This means if you have two cards of the same value (i.e. 2 fives), you may split the hand into two separates hands, essentially creating a copy of the first. Of course, you must place an equal bet on this new hand as well. This gives you 2 hands against the dealers' 1 hand.
